BlueBud: Centralizing student academic management at U-M

Role: User Experience Designer

Tools: Figma Design, Figma Make, Sketch, Balsamiq

November 2025

Context

This project explores looking into evaluating the context of  ‘Can there be a tool which not only provides a unified dashboard syncing deadlines across systems with additional engagement features, but also has room to be a conversational goals planner/ assistant' using a one-login system for students?

The Problem

At U-M students juggle 5+ platforms such as Canvas, Handshake, Gradecraft etc. leading to a fragmented system of management.

Many students have to manage spreadsheets to keep track all their profiles and saved lists on all these applications to make complete utilisation of them. On top of that, connecting with professors for office hours isn’t centralized either. This creates a high cognitive load, scattered deadlines, and constant tab-hopping.

What Impact can BlueBud create?

Reduced Cognitive load

The platform aims to reduce the cognitive load caused by manually managing various platforms.

Syncing the details through various portals by utilising APIs would allow students to engage in a single dashboardexperience.

Looking into evaluating "why is hesitation caused around students not having more interactions with professors through office hours?"

The absence of a centralized, visually engaging database causes important information, such as office hours, to be overlooked. Integrating this into the platform would improve clarity and accessibility, strengthen student–professor interactions, and encourage more collaborative learning across courses and departments.
